In not-so-breaking news…not all calories are created equal. We know this, right?!
I mean, a serving of grilled salmon is WAY more nutritious than a serving of fried chicken. So, if you’re trying to lose weight, you need to be smart about your calories. Cutting calories isn’t really my jam, but in cutting calories, you’re most likely going to cut out some crap from your diet, too! #justsayin
It’s all about focusing on the QUALITY of the calories that you are eating. I literally DO NOT look at nutritional facts as much as I look at WHAT is in the food that I’m eating.
I’m all about BABY STEPS in your health and fitness journey. And with that in mind, I’ve put together 13 easy ways for you to cut 100+ calories every day. This are things I have done in my life throughout the past 5 years that have made a MAJOR impact in the sustainability of my healthy lifestyle. Enjoy!!!
1. Eat a simple, healthy breakfast
2. Drink your coffee black
I know…I know…but as someone who NEVER could do this, let me offer you hope!
I began with taking sugar out of the coffee and only using “sugary” creamers (you know the ones I’m talking about). Then I graduated to no sugar and sweetened almond milk. Then I moved on to no sugar and unsweetened almond milk. And now?! Coffee black, baby!
3. Quit Drinking Soda
No. But seriously.
4. Swap Veggies in for Rice and Pasta
5. Portion Out Your Snacks
If you’re anything like me…I WILL eat the whole bag if the whole bag is what I’m stickin’ my hands into.
6. Cook at Home
7. Use Smaller Plates
8. Swap in Avocado for Mayo and Butter
9. Order Salad Dressing on the Side
Ordering veggie-loaded salads when you eat out are a great choice if you want to lose weight, but not if it’s drenched in dressing. Eating just two tablespoons less of ranch dressing or Italian vinaigrette will save you 128 and 100 calories less, respectively. Ask for your dressing on the side so you control how much dressing to use. This was a GAME changer for me in the beginning stages of my journey!!!
10. Eat Fresh Fruit
11. Stick With Low-Fat Cooking Techniques
12. Box Up (or Share) Half Your Meal
13. Hack Your Comfort Foods
Virtually everyone gets a food craving at some point, and it’s usually for something salty, carby, creamy, or sweet. Figure out what you regularly crave, and find a lighter swap to satisfy it.
If you’re just starting out on your weight-loss journey, these 13 tips can help you cut calories and transition to healthier eating habits. It’s all about BABY STEPS, ya’ll.
But don’t forget…cleaning up your diet is only part of the weight-loss battle, so don’t stop there — combine your new healthy eating plan with consistent, challenging workouts. You won’t get six-pack abs by eating kale salads and kicking it on the couch all week. Work on your nutrition and fitness and you’ll get the results you want.
